While diving has taken the centre stage of Espiritu Santo tourism. Fishing comes in a close second as a must-do activity in this part of Vanuatu. The island is surrounded by deep water trenches which make it a world-class fishing ground. There are several offshore seamounts and deep canyons accessible from Luganville.
Species you’ll find in the area include Mahi Mahi, Yellow Fin Tuna, Dogtooth Tuna, Albacore, Rainbow Runners, Black Marlin, Striped Marlin, Blue Marlin, Wahoo, Spanish Mackerel, giant Trevally and Sailfish. Anglers will have an exciting time with the great sports fish that put up a fight to get them on the boat.
Fabulous game fish can be easily caught just a kilometer from land – so your fishing experience starts as soon as you set foot on board. Most of the fishing activity done around the waters of Espiritu Santo are tag and release. However, you do have the option to keep some of the fish for lunch or dinner which we can cook for you at Coral Quays.
Espiritu Santo game fishing can be done year-round, but some species are more prevalent at different times of the year. For example, Sailfish, GTs and Blue Marlin tend to come around during the warmer months that start in November. Black and Striped Marlins are usually more abundant in September through to March. Peak season for Wahoo is in April to November.
Many game fishing charters can take you to remote locations with abundant gamefish, find the perfect seamount for jigging and live baiting or choose the right shoreline reef for casting popper rods. Absolute Adventures are a great choice for game fishing charter.
Our vessels have easy access to East coast fishing grounds, South fishing grounds, southwest fishing grounds, Malo fishing grounds, North Malekula fishing grounds, outer seamounts and FADs. You are bound to have a fishing adventure to remember at Espiritu Santo.
